1. Sealing the Combustion Chamber
The intake valve seat forms a tight seal with the intake valve when the valve is closed. This prevents compressed air-fuel mixture (in gasoline engines) or compressed air (in diesel engines) from leaking out of the combustion chamber during the compression stroke. A proper seal ensures maximum compression pressure, which is essential for efficient combustion, engine power, and fuel economy.


2. Heat Dissipation
During engine operation, the combustion chamber reaches extremely high temperatures (often exceeding 2,000°C). The intake valve seat, typically made of heat-resistant alloys (e.g., cast iron or sintered materials), acts as a heat sink. It absorbs heat from the intake valve (which is exposed to combustion gases) and transfers it to the cylinder head, helping to cool the valve and prevent overheating or warping. This protects the valve from damage and ensures its longevity.
